Circus Spiral shadow research

A performance in creation

SPIRAL
PATCHWORK

An unfolding circus performance built around the many possibilities of the Circus Spiral.

One apparatus, six directions

Many ways into
the Spiral.

Through six different parts, the performance moves between acrobatics, movement, music, shadows, clown and magic — each one opening another way of playing with the apparatus, the space and the audience.

One performance

Six fragments,
stitched into
one movement.

Spiral Patchwork is not a succession of six acts, but a journey built around one apparatus and one performer.

Contrasts, changes of rhythm and shifts of artistic language transform the way we see the Spiral throughout the performance. Circus, movement, music, shadows, clown and magic become different ways of shaping the same whole — stitched together through rhythm, energy and the recurring presence of the Spiral.

Research into audience placement around the Spiral performance space

One space

Bringing the audience around the Spiral.

Spiral Patchwork is created for theatres, but reshapes the usual relationship between stage and audience. Alongside the venue’s existing seating, an additional row of spectators is placed around the performance space.

This creates a shared playing area with the Spiral at its centre — opening different points of view, both physically and artistically.
